Mission For Elimination Of Poverty In Municipal Areas

About Us

The Government of Andhra Pradesh has established “Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA)” on 01.09.2007 with an objective to promote, strengthen and nurture self-sustainable institutions of the poor in Urban Areas with Governing body headed by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and Executive Committee headed by Secretary, MA & UD, Andhra Pradesh.

The Department is nodal for implementation of all Central and State Government programmes in particular to Poverty Alleviation and Self-Help Movement in urban areas of Andhra Pradesh.

Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Urban Livelihood Mission (DAY-NULM):

Govt. of India is implementing DAY-NULM “to reduce poverty and vulnerability of the urban poor households by enabling them to access self-employment and skilled wage employment opportunities, resulting in an appreciable improvement in their livelihoods on a sustainable basis, through building strong grassroots level institutions of the poor.”

The MEPMA department is the State Nodal Agency for implementation of DAY-NULM under Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Govt. of India.

Deendayal Jan Ajeevika Yojana – Shehari (DJAY-S):

The programme of DAY-NULM is being revamped into Deendayal Jan Ajeevika Yojana – Shehari (DJAY-S) with enhanced levels of scale of finance, features that support various vulnerable groups such as construction workers, transport workers, care workers, gig workers, domestic workers and waste workers etc. Also, a special focus on social infrastructure for the welfare of poor and vulnerable are part of this programme.

The MEPMA department is the State Nodal Agency for implementation of DJAY-(S) under Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Govt. of India.

Other Important Schemes:

The Department also implements important programmes like PMSVANIDHI and supports in the implementation of flagship programmes like PM Viswa Karma Yojana, PM Mudra Yojana etc. The department is also nodal for implementation of flagship programme of “Vaddi Leni Runaalu” of Govt. of Andhra Pradesh in Municipal Areas. The department supports various initiatives of government like Swach Bharat Abhiyan/Swach Andhra-Swarna Andhra, PMAY-TIDCO, etc.

The activities of the department are targeted towards achievement of Sustainable Development Goals of Goal No. 1 - No Poverty, Goal No. 2 – Zero Hunger, etc. by the year 2047.

The department SHG Groups data will be linked to all major banks covering the financial inclusion. The data is basically to support bankers in checking authenticity of groups information, process loan requests, download e-Micro Credit Plan, Update loan issue and closures in a nutshell. This application is aimed to provide virtual trainings to all SHG Members & their family members on various subjects like Digital Literacy, Functional Literacy, Financial Literacy, etc. The monthly curriculum will be followed by a virtual evaluation and issue of a training completion certificate. MEPMAs Historic Achievement in World RecordsOn the occasion of International Womens Day 2025 at Markapuram, MEPMA received three World Records from the World Records Union and one Guinness Record in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister Sri Nara Chandrababu Naidu. This prestigious recognition was awarded for MEPMA’s remarkable achievement of facilitating the sale of 1.5 lakh SHG (Self-Help Group) products through the ONDC platform, generating a revenue of over ₹2 crores. During the event, Shri N. Tej Bharath, IAS, Mission Director, MEPMA, received the awards on behalf of the organization. Additionally, MEPMA marked a significant milestone by signing MOUs with RAPIDO, HOME TRIANGLE, and NATS-ASHA Society, further strengthening its commitment to empowering women entrepreneurs.
